Camping Tips: 4 Games for Spring

Finding ways to get your family to spend time together at the campground isn’t always easy. We recommend planning some activities together before you even leave the house. Below are a few camping tips for some campground games that you and your family will love.

Board Games

Whether you plan to plan inside at your dinette after it gets dark or set up around the picnic table during the day, packing some board games can help you and your family spend some quality time together. Some of the best games to pack for the campground include:

  • Parcheesi
  • Cards
  • Jenga
  • Pictionary
  • Yahtzee
  • Farkle

Cornhole

A classic game for the campground, cornhole is easy to take because all you need are two boards and eight bean bags. Set the boards 27′ apart, divide into teams of two, and pick a color of bean bags for each team. Then, you’ll just take turns tossing the bags onto the boards and scoring. A bag on the board is 1 point, a bag in the hole is 3. If your opponent gets a bag on the board, it cancels your point, and the same goes for bags in the hole. First to exactly 21 points wins!

Tug-O-War

Another fun game you can plan for the kids is a few rounds of Tug-O-War. All you need is a long rope with knots in it, a ribbon to mark the center of the rope and a way to mark the two ends of the play area. Divide into teams and try to tug the ribbon of the rope across the play area line.

Spoons

All you need for this classic campground game is a deck of cards, spoons, and more than three players. To play, set up the area with one less spoon than there are players and deal four cards to each player. The goal is to get four of a kind.

One player starts by drawing a card from the deck and either keeping it in their hand or passing it to the next player. If they choose to keep that card, they have to pass a different card from their hand to the player on their left. You keep going around the table until someone gets four of a kind.

Once someone gets four of a kind, they have to take a spoon from the middle of the table and put it to their nose. Everyone else needs to follow suit as quickly as possible, and the person without a spoon at the end is out. Keep going until there are only two players and one spoon! First to four of a kind wins!
